In this post we’ll take a look back at the history of Best Buy Wichita in under 10 minutes. You might be surprised by what you find!
Best Buy was founded in 1966, and has grown to become one of the largest retailers in the United States. Between 1989 and 1991, there were three stores opened: two in Minnesota (Duluth and Roseville) and one in Kansas City, Missouri. The first store located outside of Minnesota didn’t open until 1998 – that’s when our Wichita location became a part of the Best Buy family!
There are so many things that make this store memorable, but we’ll start with our very first employees: the founders of Best Buy Wichita! The founder’s names were Greg Akers and Chris Zank. They opened up the Wichita location in 199, which is now known as Store #3577.
This might be surprising for some people to learn – when it comes to customer service, you don’t always need a physical storefront where customers can walk inside and speak face-to-face with an employee about their issues or questions! We’ve served over 200 million satisfied customers online through our website alone. To support various needs from all different types of shoppers like yourself (whether you’re shopping around for electronics or appliances), we offer both
In the early 1970s, Best Buy was a small business based in Minnesota. It began as an audio store and eventually evolved into a consumer electronics retailer
Best Buy’s first expansion came when it merged with Sound of Music which had stores around St. Paul and Minneapolis
The company then expanded to Canada within three years by opening stores on both sides of the border- one in Ontario and another in Quebec
It launched its own online shopping site In November 1994 after doing $14 million worth of web sales from 900 different catalog items just two months before launch day – that translates to about 150 orders per day! Nowadays, they see over 50 million visits each year with nearly 20% coming directly from mobile devices
They entered into Mexico in 200, and China in 2005
In 2006, they opened the first stores under the Best Buy Mobile banner (previously called The Carphone Warehouse) with one designed for customers to test-drive wireless devices before buying them
Best Buy entered into a joint venture partnership agreement with Chinese company Jiangsu Five Star Appliance Co. Ltd., which would operate eight of its appliance stores under the ‘Five Star’ name in major Chinese cities – such as Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou In 2007 it acquired Napster from Rhapsody International Inc. And rebranded it back to Napster in 2008
The most recent expansion was announced on April 28th when Hubert Joly said that he wanted “to create more physical space”
Steve Jobs, a marketing genius and inventor of the first personal computer, was 23 when he took his high school friend Steve Wozniak to work out of an old garage in Silicon Valley. They believed their revolutionary idea would change the world for good.
Their partnership lasted only six years but they did not disappoint each other or themselves; Apple created such iconic devices as Macintosh computers and iPhones that changed how people communicated with one another across borders and oceans.
But even though it had its ups and downs, by 1985 Best Buy’s revenue exceeded $70 million dollars annually (in today’s equivalent). The company continued growing over time through mergers with companies like Geek Squad Inc., Pacific Sales Company, RadioShack Corporation.
In 1983, Best Buy became the first company to offer one-hour service for TV repairs and installation on a 24-hour basis at all of its stores nationwide. At the same time in 1986 they were also offering computer sales across their expansive product lines (later becoming known as The Geek Squad).
Best Buy was instrumental in changing how people shopped for electronics by establishing a number of new store formats that reached more shoppers with competitive prices and better customer service than anyone else had been able to do until then. One such format is Outlet Stores where In 2001, they opened an outlet store called Liquidation World which offered customers discounts up to 80% off selected items from discontinued models or other closeouts while another format is the Mobile Centers where they offered a great selection of mobile phones and accessories.
In 2005, Best Buy acquired Geek Squad, an in-home technical support provider after it had been operating as a wholly owned subsidiary for the company since 2001. In 2008 its first store within Canada opened in Mississauga with plans to open eight additional stores by 2011. The Canadian division has faced tough competition from other retailers such as Rogers Communications Inc., who sells electronics through their chain of wireless retail stores that include Fido Solutions or Future Shop (owned by CTVglobemedia).
We have learned that people go to Best Buy because they offer competitive prices and better customer service than anyone else does until now. They also change how we shopped for electronics by creating a store where people could see, touch and try the products before buying them. In addition to its retailer operations, Best Buy also provides installation services in vehicle audio systems on cars which are delivered and installed at customers’ homes or businesses.
We have learned that even though some of our competitors in our industry may be bigger than us they cannot match the customer service we offer plus their prices often times are more expensive because they do not sell items below retail value like we do.
In 2005, Geek Squad became an official subsidiary company part of Best Buy following 11 years as a wholly owned subsidiary business entity until 2008 when it opened up its first Canadian store opening followed by eight additional stores by 2011 with tough competition from other retailers.
We have also learned that the company started as Sound of Music in 1966 with Richard M. Schulze and James Wheeler opening a small stereophonic speaker store in St. Paul, Minnesota which would later become Best Buy when it merged with Future Shop to form one big conglomerate corporation operating under two different brand names until 2008 when they consolidated back into just Best Buy again after acquiring Carphone Warehouse’s shares for $800 million giving them a 51% stake on the overall business but not taking over complete ownership from Carphone at the time since he was still trying to keep his own little empire going strong by building up PC World stores across Europe during that same year.
Today, we are given insight about how much our competitors need to grow in order to compete against our brand.
