At a recent show in the Philippines, I showed a room with a fish dish and a dollhouse filled with fish. I didn’t look at the place and I didn’t even touch it. I simply watched the dollhouse and I thought, Oh, hey, that’s the price.
In this case, the dollhouse is not a true dollhouse. Its a series of prefabricated, plastic-framed rooms that are then assembled by hand. This is a great example of the way that the industrial revolution has made possible an affordable, mass-produced home. In fact, if you look at the original, full-sized, American home from the 1950s, you’ll see just such a dollhouse, complete with its original kitchen, bathtub and bed.
This really reminds me of the recent movie, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, where the AI designers actually built a dollhouse for their robot, and then had to re-assemble it. I love that story.
